Ski Hotels in Switzerland
Swiss resorts certainly have everything! High altitude skiing amid spectacular scenery and numerous quaint Alpine villages. Switzerland is home to a wide variety of ski resorts, a large number of which are considered to be the most popular in Europe.
France has more purpose built resorts whereas many Swiss ones are traditional farming communities, now holiday resorts popular throughout summer as well as winter. This seems to create a more lived in feel to them and a much more established home community.
Some resorts are comparatively pricey. St Moritz, Gstaad, Zermatt, Davos and Verbier to name a few. However, the service and standard of these resorts is very high indeed and thus reflected in the price. Zermatt is a traditional resort with one of the most stunning backdrops, the Matterhorn. It is a car-free village with horse-drawn sleighs and boasts a somewhat ostentatious village centre and certainly some of the best skiing in the Alps. It has an easy link to neighbouring Italian resort of Cervinia too.
Verbier is another outstanding place to ski. One can explore the 4 valleys here and discover a vast amount of skiing for all ability levels. Experts are drawn to Verbier too, due to its exceptional off piste.
For slightly more modest resorts (Saas fee, Wengen, Villars for example), the standards are still very high yet that bit cheaper.
Switzerland certainly does boast some stunning scenery, outstanding skiing and first class service.
